If you've ever gone through onboarding, submitted a support ticket, or needed help launching one of your employers in Emerge Apps, there's a good chance you've worked with Josh Boss.
You may not always see him front and center—and that's exactly how he likes it.
Josh has never been interested in being the loudest voice in the room. Instead, he finds satisfaction in solving problems, answering questions, and making sure customers feel confident every step of the way. Whether it's walking an employer through OSHA recordkeeping or tracking down the root cause of a technical issue, Josh has a simple goal: leave people better off than when they reached out.
That quiet dedication has become one of Emerge Apps' greatest strengths.
Growing up, Josh spent plenty of time alongside his dad, Randy, tackling projects that most kids wouldn't dream of taking on.
Whether it was home improvement projects, outdoor work, or learning to push through challenges, those experiences helped shape the work ethic he carries today.
"My dad always believed there was another level you could reach," Josh says. "He saw potential in people, and he pushed you to find it."
That mindset carried over into another major part of Josh's life: competitive swimming.
A standout athlete from an early age, Josh was consistently ranked as Michigan's top swimmer, qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials during college, was featured in Sports Illustrated, and was inducted into the collegiate swimming hall of fame.
But ask Josh what he took away from swimming, and he won't start with the accomplishments.
Swimming taught him discipline, patience, and the understanding that meaningful progress doesn't happen overnight. Success came from showing up every day, paying attention to the smallest details, and trusting that consistent effort would eventually produce results.
It's a mindset that still shapes the way he approaches his work today.
Like both Randy and Dustin, Josh originally expected to follow the traditional insurance path.
After working alongside Randy early in his career, he gradually realized his greatest strengths weren't in prospecting—they were in learning new systems, helping people solve problems, and making sure others felt successful.
"I took the rejection part personally," Josh admits with a laugh. "I knew it wasn't really personal, but it just wasn't where I was at my best."
Rather than forcing himself into a role that didn't fit, Josh leaned into the work that energized him most: supporting others.
That realization led him to his current role at Emerge Apps, where those strengths have become the foundation for leading onboarding and customer support.
Ask Josh what he enjoys most about his job, and his answer has very little to do with software.
He loves working alongside agencies that are passionate about improving their clients' businesses.
"When someone wants to learn, asks questions, and is genuinely trying to make things better, that's what makes this job rewarding," Josh says.
Whether he's onboarding a new agency, walking an employer through AutomateSafety for the first time, or investigating a difficult support issue, Josh isn't satisfied with simply answering a question.
He wants customers to leave feeling confident.
One of his favorite moments is hearing someone say, "That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be."
"That's a huge win for me," Josh says. "If I can answer the question and make the solution feel simple, I feel like I've done my job."
His teammates often describe him as relentless when it comes to solving problems. If something isn't working, Josh keeps digging until he understands why—and until the customer has everything they need to move forward.
Today, Josh has the unique opportunity to work alongside both his dad, Randy, and his brother, Dustin.
Like any family business, there are plenty of spirited discussions and different perspectives.
But underneath it all is a shared purpose.
"We all have the same ultimate goal," Josh says. "We may not always say it the same way, but we're all working toward the same thing."
That shared commitment—and the trust that comes from working with family—has helped shape the culture at Emerge Apps from the very beginning.
His Emerge Apps Superpower: Relentlessly solving problems and addressing every tiny detail until customers have everything they need.
Favorite Part of the Job: Helping agencies and employers feel confident and successful using Emerge Apps.
A Favorite Hobby: Spending time outdoors with his family—whether that's yard work, walking the dogs, or playing catch with his kids.
A Defining Characteristic: A completionist. Josh loves taking something from unfinished to fully solved, making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
